Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said he didn't back progressive Democrats' Green New Deal during the volatile debate on Tuesday amid charges from President Donald Trump that the former vice president supported an environmental plan that would cost $100 trillion.
"I don't support the Green New Deal," Biden said during a nearly 10-minute back and forth between the two candidates over climate change.
Trump incorrectly claimed the Green New Deal resolution issued last year would cost $100 trillion and that Biden backed the idea. Even the conservative think tank that published the figure Trump referenced acknowledged it could not conclude whether its assessment was accurate.
While Biden has incorporated some elements of the Green New Deal into his climate platform, the Democratic candidate has offered a separate plan that calls for spending $2 trillion in a potential first term.
