ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) released the following statement today following the Supreme Court’s 7-2 ruling that grants right of way to a section of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline in central Virginia.
“Today’s 7-2 Supreme Court ruling, with overwhelming support from both liberal and conservative justices, means good-paying UA jobs are coming to North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia,” said Mark McManus, General President of the UA. “When built by UA members, pipelines are the most efficient method of transporting natural gas. Not only is this ruling a win for UA members, but the Atlantic Coast Pipeline will help keep energy costs low for consumers – making this a major win for American families. The UA is ready to get to work.”
“Make no mistake about it: today’s ruling means the UA can get to work building the safer, more effective, and more efficient mode of natural gas transport that is the Atlantic Coast Pipeline,” said Dave Barnett, Director of Pipeline and Gas Distribution for the UA. “This ruling is the culmination of hard work by the UA and our partners to meet all regulatory standards and to ensure the safety and quality of the project. Now that the Supreme Court has effectively approved the planned path of this pipeline, the UA stands ready to help deliver safe and reliable energy to keep costs down for American families.”
