The United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) endorsed Tom Perez for Governor of Maryland today, citing his proven record as a strong ally of organized labor, his plans to create good-paying jobs with fair benefits, and his commitment to ensuring all working families have a fair shot at success. The United Association has more than 7,000 members who live or work in Maryland as members of UA Local 5, UA Local 486, UA Local 489, UA Local 602, and UA Local 669.
“Tom Perez is a proven fighter for the men and women of the United Association, and he’ll have our back in Annapolis. We don’t need another politician who will just promise to create jobs or protect our gold-standard apprenticeship programs, or who will promise to stand up to big business and hold non-union contractors accountable. We need someone with the track record to back it up. Tom Perez has that track record,” said Mark McManus, General President of the United Association. “For working families like ours, having a Governor who is committed to creating good-paying jobs with fair benefits, to protecting Davis-Bacon prevailing wage laws, ensuring the use of project labor agreements, and fighting the scourge of wage theft and worker misclassification is essential to making sure all Marylanders have a fair shot at the middle class. We are proud to have Tom’s back in this campaign, because he has always had ours – and we know he always will.”
