United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) General President Mark McManus praised the announcement today that Intel will receive $8.5 billion in federal funding from the CHIPS and Science Act, including $50 million for training programs and registered apprenticeships, as further evidence of President Biden’s commitment to working families across America:
“This funding will jumpstart construction on major Intel projects that will put our members to work for decades. President Biden is making a generational investment in skilled American construction workers to return the United States to our rightful place as the world leader in semiconductor manufacturing,” said Mark McManus, General President of the United Association. “Thanks to our gold standard registered apprenticeship program, UA members are the best trained and most highly skilled craftspeople in the world – and with thousands of miles of pipe to install in these fabs, we can’t settle for anything less. President Biden promised to be the most pro-worker and pro-union president in history, and with this announcement he continues to deliver.”
