UA Department of Legislative and Political Affairs
The UA Department of Legislative Affairs, led by Director Russ Breckenridge, proudly represents the more than 403,000 hardworking men and women of the UA in Washington, D.C., and in state capitals around the nation. The Department works closely with UA and local union leadership to make sure our elected officials listen to the working men and women who build our nation.
We created this website to be a resource for you. Read up on critical issues and legislation facing the UA, learn more about your elected officials and candidates for office, and take action yourselves.
The UA Department of Legislative and Political Affairs works tirelessly to build and strengthen relationships on both sides of the aisle because our work is not partisan – it is essential.

Our strength is in our membership – and when we get involved, we win. Prevailing wage protections. Apprenticeship funding. Job site safety standards. None of that happens by accident.
We take that fight seriously: through voter engagement, legislative advocacy, and political action at every level of government. Different fights call for different tools, but the formula never changes: UA members working together get results.
