United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) Wins
Five “Oscars” of the Political World for Campaign Ads
Wins included Best in the Nation for Television Super Pac/Independent Expenditure
The United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) won five Pollie Awards for ads they produced as part of their 2019 national political program. The winning ads were pivotal to helping both John Bel Edwards and Andy Beshear win their respective races for governor in Louisiana and Kentucky, two critical races in which the UA played essential roles.
“The UA was proud to go all-in for John Bel Edwards and Andy Beshear, two staunch allies of our members,” said UA General President Mark McManus. “These awards are more recognition of the growing role the UA continues to play in winning high-profile campaigns across the country.”
“When the UA gets involved in a race, we go all in to win. And that’s exactly what we did for Governor John Bel Edwards and Governor Andy Beshear,” said Russ Breckenridge, architect of the national strategy for the UA. “We have only just begun and will continue to be aggressive when it comes to electing candidates who support our members and their jobs.”
In Louisiana, the UA ran ads to mobilize members to vote for John Bel Edwards and to define his opponent, “Phony” Eddie Rispone. The UA’s ads in Kentucky helped mobilize voters in the eastern part of the state, widely acknowledged as the key to his victory, giving Andy Beshear the final boost he needed to win the Governor’s office.
