United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) General President Mark McManus praised the announcement this morning that the U.S. Department of Commerce signed a preliminary memorandum of terms to provide up to $6.4 billion in grant funding to Samsung Electronics as a critical investment in the next generation of American manufacturing:
“Thanks to President Biden’s leadership and his CHIPS and Science Act, the United States is poised to reclaim our rightful place as the world leader in semiconductor manufacturing. The terms announced this morning to expand Samsung’s production in Texas will not only power the future of semiconductors, but they will create good-paying union jobs for generations to come,” said Mark McManus, General President of the United Association. “The men and women of the United Association are the best trained and most highly skilled craftspeople in the industry – and with thousands of miles of pipe and hundreds of thousands of square feet of clean room space in these fabs, we cannot settle for anything less. We look forward to our continued partnership with Samsung and with the Biden Administration to ensure the future of semiconductor manufacturing is not just American made, but union made.”
