Newly inaugurated Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger appointed UA ally and strong defender of working families Jessica Looman to serve as Virginia’s Secretary of Labor this month, a role that is essential to protecting UA jobs and fair wages across the Commonwealth. Looman built her career fighting for working families like ours and served as President Biden's Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division at the Department of Labor, where she was responsible for enforcing and strengthening Davis-Bacon prevailing wage laws and cracking down on wage theft – including the most meaningful expansion of Davis-Bacon in generations. This appointment is exactly why the UA gets involved in politics.
