Rep. Steny Hoyer Retires: A Career Defined by Standing with the UA

Thursday, January 8, 2026

For 45 years in Congress, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) has been a steadfast champion for the UA, our members, and working families nationwide. As a Congressman and then as the leader of Congressional Democrats, Hoyer consistently stood with UA members as he fought for fair pay and strong benefits while fighting against efforts to weaken collective bargaining and retirement security. Hoyer understood that strong unions and strong relationships matter, and he showed up time and again to listen to our members and stand publicly in our corner. As he retires and a changing of the guard begins, his legacy is a reminder that real progress for working families like ours depends on leaders who build trust with the UA and our members, and translate those partnerships into lasting gains for working people.
