Microsoft and Constellation Energy announced plans to reopen Three Mile Island’s nuclear plant to power the next generation of data centers under the Biden administration — and now, the federal government is signing off on a critical milestone. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) granted a waiver this month allowing Constellation Energy to begin transferring certain grid rights to the Three Mile Island plant — paving the way for the plant to come online on schedule in 2027.
The UA worked with elected officials in both parties and with President Biden to ensure the historic infrastructure funding that was signed into law included funding to modernize our nation’s nuclear fleet with strong labor protections attached. Thanks to that work, UA members are delivering clean, affordable, and reliable energy to communities across the nation.
