UA Defeats Three Anti-UA Bills

Tuesday, January 20, 2026

The UA stopped a direct attack on our members' paychecks this week when all Democrats and a handful of Republicans defeated three anti-worker bills. The most dangerous would have let contractors exclude "voluntary" training from overtime calculations, meaning our members would not be compensated for certain training. Another bill would have reduced overtime rates by excluding childcare and eldercare benefits from the calculation, while a third aimed to expand tipped employee definitions to justify lower base wages for service technicians. These bills threatened real money from our members' pockets and would have forced unpaid work hours. While we won this fight, it's a warning: with Republicans controlling Congress and the White House, more attacks on overtime protections and wages are coming. That’s why our engagement on both sides of the aisle is more critical than ever – and we will always fight for UA jobs, UA wages, and UA benefits.
